Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage) Oil - How Does it Work?

For so long, society has been searching for an omega 3 type oil that is stable.  We've looked at flax seeds as a potential source for omega 3, at Chia seeds (Salvia Hispanica), at Canola oil and Fish oil .  We've been searching for a stable source of Omega 3 as  It is well known that Omega 3 oils are the least stable of all the polyunsaturated oil available.   Omega 6 oils are slightly more stable but as it is, we have way too much omega 6 in our diets and Omega 6 causes inflammation which is associated with autoimmune diseases, among other things.  Even if we don't suffer from any specific disease, inflammation causes a deterioration in our feeling of well being.   We all need to compensate for the Omega 6 we get in our modern diet by consuming more omega 3 oils.

A team of Israeli researchers has found an oil that is stable for a long time - not just for a few minutes.  Most Omega 3 oils get rancid extremely quickly, once they have entered the body as a result of the body's heat and the oxygen present which causes oxidation.  Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage oil) is stable in room temperature for about 2 years!  This is truly a breakthrough and enables us to stabilize our cell membranes with Omega 3.  This further enables our cell membranes to do their job for a long time and not just for a few seconds before they go rancid and cause free radicals and damage to the membrane. This damage is what happens to our cell membranes when we consume the other, less stable forms of Omega 3 oils.

So, how does the Salvia Sclare oil help our bodies?

1.  The  oil is cold pressed from the seeds of the Salvia Sclarea plant and is  comprised of :
  • 50%  Alpha Linolenic Acid (ALA - vegetarian Omega 3)

Omega 3 improves and strengthens all of the cells in the body.
Each cell in the body  is surrounded by a membrane which is comprised of Essential Fatty Acids.  This membrane is semi-permeable and protects the cell.  Essential Fatty Acids such as ALA, DHA and EPA build and strengthen the walls of the cell, thereby strengthening all of the body's systems.

A shortage of Omega 3 can damage all of  the body's systems – brain, heart, nerves, circulation etc.

  • The remaining 50% of the oil contains over 120 active ingredients such as:
    • Coenzyme Q10 – A powerful Anti Oxidant that improves cell performance
    • Vitamin E – Improves Circulation, may help prevent heart disease
    • Sclareol – Enhances the activity of Anti Cancer drugs, has antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal properties.
    • Tannic Acid – has anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-mutagenic and astringent properties.
    • Vegetable Sterols – Lower LDL by preventing cholesterol absorption
    • Omega 9 – May reduce blood pressure, boost memory,

2.        The body must receive Omega 3 from outside sources as it cannot manufacture it (except in mother's milk).  All over the world people consume way too much Omega 6 which causes inflammation and way too little Omega 3 which reduces inflammation.  This ruins  the optimal ratio between Omega 3 and Omega 6 in the body.

3.        According to Professor Michael Crawford, founder of the Institute of Brain Chemistry and Human Nutrition, the body cannot process DHA and EPA (from fish) without the presence of ALA which balances the ratio between Omega 3 and Omega 6.  In addition, Professor Crawford maintains that consumption of too much DHA and EPA can be dangerous.  On the other hand, the human body converts just the right amount of ALA to EPA and DHA according to the body's needs (as proven in the famous "Firefighter's Study" in 2008).
